Eyelash Extensions pre-care and after care Instructions

PRE-EYELASH EXTENSION PREPARATION RECOMMENDATIONS
The only preparation recommended is that you wear no eye makeup to your service appointment as it interferes with the adhesives.

POST EYELASH EXTENSION CARE
FOLLOWING THESE STEPS WILL ENSURE A BETTER AND LONGER LASTING POST-SERVICE RESULT:

  • Avoid getting your lashes wet within the first 24 hours after your application.
  • For the first 48 hours after application it is suggested to avoid swimming, saunas, or steam rooms.
  • It is best to avoid oil-based eye products as they will weaken the bond of your adhesive.
  • Do not pick, pull or rub your lashes.
  • Avoid using mascaras that are not formulated for lash extensions.
  • Do not use an eyelash curler, perm, or tint your lashes.
  • If you experience any signs of irritation contact your lash stylist immediately. You could be experiencing an allergic reaction to the extensions and need them removed.
  • It is recommended to come for your eyelash extension touch up within 2-3 weeks to replace any outgrown lashes.

LASHES FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT ARE INDIVIDUAL EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Semi-permanent lashes, also known as individual eyelash extensions, are eyelashes applied with an adhesive which is usually cyanoacrylate (like adhesives used in surgeries) Eyelash extensions give the appearance of having mascara on without the messy clumps and smudging of makeup. Generally, a single lash is applied to each natural lash.

With volume, which are a lot lighter in weight 2-6 lashes are applied to each one of your natural lashes to give the appearance of a more fuller dramatic look. All still looking very clean and sexy.

HOW LONG DOES EACH APPLICATION OF LASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

They can last anywhere from 4-6 weeks. Usually clients want to preserve the fullness of their look therefore 2-3 week refills are recommended for the upkeep.

WHEN APPLYING LASH EXTENSIONS, DOES IT HURT?

Lashing should not hurt the client. At Licorice NYC you are placed in a most comfortable setting with blankets and pillows for comfort. You will be laying on a bed with your eyes closed during your full lash application. Soft music plays in the background while your lash stylist gives you a most enhanced look. Most clients do fall asleep during the application process. Once finished you will open your to your big reveal.

HOW LONG DOES EACH LASH APPLICATION TAKE?

Each application may take anywhere from 1-2 hours depending on how full you would like your lashes.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY LASHES?

• A quick home remedy for cleaning your lashes is to apply a foam mix of baby Johnson wash which is located in any pharmacy diluted (MIXTURE: 1 part baby Johnson to 8 parts water) mix to create a light foam. You will then use a small makeup brush the size of an angled eyelash brush to apply the mixture and brush lashes straight down. No side swiping movements at all. When brushing lashes straight down this preserves the hold of your lash extensions but still cleans any debris left from makeup or dust particles that may get stuck to your lashes.
• It is recommended that you clean and wash your lashes every other day if you wear heavy makeup. If you're a non-makeup person wash your lashes every 3-4 days.
• Please ensure that you brush your lashes very lightly on the tips or ends on a daily basis. This avoids tangling as your natural lashes grow out.
• Do not brush your lashes as if you are putting on Mascara to preserve its integrity.

WHAT IF I HAVE ALLERGIES TO THE ADHESIVE USED?

Some clients do develop (rare) to the adhesive used. In this instance a sensitive adhesive can be used.

If for some reason you develop swelling, redness or puffiness to your eyes you may return to have them removed free of charge.

Microblading Pre-care and After care Instructions

The Prep:
It all starts with a good canvas! Your eyebrow area must be healthy, strong, non-sensitive, and non-irritated. Here's how to get your skin ready for the procedure:

  • Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before the procedure
  • Do not tan two weeks prior to the service, or have a sunburned face
  • Do not have any type of facial 2 weeks prior to the procedure
  • Do not work out the day of the procedure
  • Do not have Botox 3 weeks prior to the procedure
  • Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior to the procedure (they are natural blood thinners)
  • Do not wax or tint your eyebrows 3 days prior to the procedure

In order to avoid excessive bleeding and poor color deposit:
  • Do not drink alcohol 24 - 48 hours before your tattoo
  • Do not consume coffee before your procedure
  • Do not take an Aspirin or Ibuprofen for pain relief (these also thin the blood)

The day of the treatment:
After the procedure, gently blot the area with clean tissue to absorb excess lymph fluid. Do this every 5 minutes for the full day until the oozing has stopped. Removing this fluid prevents hardening of the lymphatic fluids.

Days 1-7: Moisturize
Apply a rice grain amount of aftercare ointment with a cotton swab and spread it across the treated area. Be sure not to over-apply, as this will suffocate your skin and delay healing. The ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. NEVER put the ointment on a wet or damp tattoo.

Important Reminders
  • Use a fresh pillowcase while you sleep.
  • Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of color.
  • No facials, Botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week.
  • Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after the procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors.
  • Avoid long, hot showers for the first 10 days.
  • Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days.
  • Avoid face-down swimming, lakes, and hot tubs for the first 10 days,
  • Avoid topical makeup and sunscreen on the area.
  • DO NOT rub, pick, or scratch the treated area.

Remember, with the proper prep and aftercare routine, you will have much better results with your microblading procedure.

Important note about showering:
Limit your showers to 5 minutes so that you do not create too much steam. Keep your face/procedure area out of the water while you wash your body, then, at the end of your shower, wash your hair. Your face should only be getting wet only at the end of the shower. Avoid excessive rinsing and hot water on the treated area.

MICROBLADING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Microblading is a form of tattoo artistry where pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld tool instead of a machine also known as microneedling, or eyebrow embroidery. It is semi-permanent in its existence and creates hair-like strokes with the use of a manual pen containing very small needles.

WHAT IS MICROSHADING?

With ever evolving new techniques, there is microfeathering, which is microblading with a lighter touch focused on adding just a little to the brows' existing shape, and ombré or microshading, which mimics the look of brow makeup with a more obviously filled-in look instead of hair-like strokes.

Microshading sometimes I better for clients of darker skinned tone, African American clients and those that wear makeup most of the time.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY MICROBLADING SESSION?

1. Stop any blood thinning activities. Aspirin consumption and usage of retinol either orally or on skin should cease at least one week prior to your session. These will make you bleed more during your procedure. When you bleed a lot during your session this pushes out much of the pigment that needs to form your new brow look. Save yourself time and money by doing this.

Some other blood thinners are anything caffeinated (coffee, teas etc.) and alcohol.

DOES MICROBLADING HURT?

First off pain is relative! Some clients feel it more than others. At Licorice Beauty NY we use two forms of numbing creams to aid in reducing and eliminating pain or discomfort from this procedure. You will hear a sort of scraping sound that is more intense than the feeling after you've been numbed. If your pain tolerance is low we will apply numbing cream for up to an hour before your procedure just think of those magnificent brows you'll have after.

HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING LAST?

The results of microblading vary from client to client and can last anywhere from 1 to 3 years. Various factors can determine how well the pigment will retain - such as amount of pigment implanted, the client's skin-type, immediate aftercare, the client's skin care regimen and medical history.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR MICROBLADING?

One common misconception about microblading is that it is only for individuals that have severe hair loss. Although these clients can benefit from the service immensely, anyone looking to add depth and color will find great value in microblading. It's also a great choice for those wanting to correct their brow shape after years of follicle damage from various epilation methods.

WHY IS MICROBLADING ONLY SEMI-PERMANENT?

Traditional methods of permanent makeup consists of implanting pigment to the dermis. The dermis is live skin made up of blood vessels, sebaceous glands, sweat glands and nerves. Since this layer of skin is alive, it usually retains pigments permanently. In microblading, pigment is deposited right above the dermis into the basal layer of the epidermis. Because the cells of the basal layer continuously divide, the pigment is then broken down and eventually migrates to the surface causing the pigment to fade away.

WHAT IS THE MAINTENANCE FOR MICROBLADING?

A mandatory 4-8 week touch up is required to ensure the skin has retained the pigment and/or to insert additional strokes for a fuller look. We recommend that clients schedule a touch-up visit once a year to maintain the shape and ensure pigment retention.

CLIENTS WHO ARE NOT ELIGIBLE:

  • Women who are breastfeeding.
  • Clients who are keloid prone.
  • Clients who are currently using Accutane.
  • Clients who are currently receiving chemotherapy.

Skin treatments that include the exfoliation of the brow area (such as microdermabrasion), certain chemical, fruit peeling or laser treatments may affect the result of microblading. Clients must abstain from retinols for 30 days after the treatment. Sunlight - both natural and artificial - can also affect the results.
